Radiating pain treatment in Bristol that finds where it's actually coming from
The pain is in your arm or leg The cause is in your spine
Pain that travels from the neck into the shoulder and down the arm. An ache that runs from the lower back through the buttock and into the leg. Radiating pain follows a nerve pathway. The nerve is being compressed at its root, and sending signals along its entire length. The pain is in the limb. The cause is higher up. We find it. Radiating arm and leg pain treatment in Bristol
When pain travels down an arm or leg, it is following a nerve pathway. The nerve exits the spine, passes through the shoulder or hip, and runs the length of the limb. When something compresses it at its root in the spine, the signal travels that full length. The pain, aching, burning or tingling is felt in the arm or leg. The compression causing it is in the spine. People treat the limb that hurts. The limb isn't the problem.
Radiating arm pain typically originates from the cervical spine: a joint or disc pressing on a nerve root refers pain into the shoulder, down the arm and into the forearm and hand, sometimes into specific fingers. Radiating leg pain typically originates from the lumbar spine: compression at the nerve root refers pain through the buttock, down the back of the thigh and into the calf and foot. The reason radiating pain is so persistent is that people address where they feel it rather than where it starts. Massage, stretching and rest reduce the pain in the limb temporarily. None of it changes what is compressing the nerve at its root.
At Willow, we identify the level in the spine where the compression is occurring and treat that directly. Until the compression changes, the pain returns. We change the compression.

Evidence-based care for radiating arm and leg pain
Chiropractic is one of the most effective approaches for radiating pain because it addresses the nerve compression at the source.
At Willow, we combine thorough clinical and neurological assessment with targeted treatment to identify exactly where in the spine the compression is occurring and take the pressure off directly.

How chiropractic care can help radiating arm and leg pain
Radiating pain looks different for everyone
Our focus is simple: identify which nerve root is being compressed, find what is compressing it, and restore the space and movement the nerve needs. Because radiating pain has a route, and the route has a source.
Radiating pain is not being able to find a position where the arm is comfortable. Driving that makes the leg worse by the time you arrive. Sitting at a desk that loads the arm all day. The ache that starts in your back and doesn't stop until it reaches your foot. Waking at night because there is no side that settles it. Walking that starts fine and builds into something that forces you to stop.
When should you see a chiropractor for radiating arm or leg pain?
You should see a chiropractor if:
- Pain is consistently travelling into your arm, hand, leg or foot
- Stretching, rest or massage help temporarily but the pain returns
- Certain positions, movements or activities reliably trigger or worsen it
- The pain comes with tingling, numbness or weakness
- You have been treating the limb without addressing the spine
- You want to find the source, not just manage the symptom
Find the source and treat it. That's how radiating pain resolves.

What happens at your first radiating pain appointment?
Your first visit is a proper assessment, designed to locate the exact level in the spine where the nerve compression is occurring and establish what is causing it. You'll get:
- A detailed history of your symptoms and their pattern
- Neurological testing to map the nerve pathway and identify which root is affected
- Orthopaedic testing to locate the compression
- A thorough examination of the cervical or lumbar spine
- A postural assessment
- X-rays, if clinically required
- A clear explanation of where the compression is and why
- Straight advice on what we can do and what the plan looks like
For many patients, the first assessment is the first time the spine has been examined as the source of pain they have been feeling in their limb.
91% of Willow patients feel better with regular chiropractic care.

Why our approach is different
By the time most people reach us, they have spent weeks or months treating the limb. Massaging the arm that hurts. Stretching the leg. Resting, taking painkillers, applying heat. Sometimes it helps for a day or two. Then the pain travels back to where it always is.
There's a reason that sequence doesn't hold. The arm and the leg are where the pain is. They are not where the problem is. Everything aimed at the limb is aimed at the destination of the pain signal, not its source. The nerve root is still compressed. The signal keeps travelling. What we're looking for:
- Which level of the cervical or lumbar spine is producing the compression
- Whether the compression is from a joint, a disc, or both
- How the surrounding structures are contributing to the nerve being under pressure
- What in your posture, movement and daily habits is loading the spine and maintaining the compression
Once the source is confirmed, treatment is targeted precisely at that level. Most patients notice a meaningful reduction in radiating symptoms within the first few visits.
You don't have to keep treating the arm or leg while the spine goes unaddressed.
