Tennis elbow treatment in Bristol that treats the nerve behind the pain, not just the elbow
Don't let tennis elbow grip your life
Tennis elbow is pain on the outside of the elbow that makes gripping, lifting and twisting painful or impossible. Most people who have it have never picked up a racket. And the elbow is where the pain is, not always where the problem starts. The nerve supply to the forearm runs from the cervical spine. The wrist and shoulder are part of the same loading chain. We look at all of it. Appointments available today across 6 Bristol & South West locations.

Tennis elbow treatment in Bristol
Despite the name, the vast majority of people who develop tennis elbow have never played tennis. The decorator painting ceilings. The desk worker with the mouse always extended. The chef gripping and twisting all day. The parent lifting a toddler. Repetitive loading of the forearm tendons is the mechanism. The activity is rarely sport.
What makes tennis elbow more complicated than it appears is that the elbow is not always the source. The nerve supply to the forearm runs from the cervical spine. A compressed nerve in the neck can produce lateral elbow pain that is clinically indistinguishable from a tendon problem. And even when the tendon is genuinely involved, the wrist, shoulder and neck are all part of the loading pattern that caused it. Treating the elbow alone explains why so many people see only temporary improvement.
At Willow, we assess the full chain: the elbow, the forearm, the shoulder and the cervical spine. We identify where the problem actually originates and treat that, not just where it hurts.

Evidence-based care for tennis elbow
Chiropractic is one of the most effective approaches for tennis elbow because it looks beyond the point of pain.
At Willow, we combine thorough clinical assessment with targeted treatment to establish whether the problem is in the tendon, the nerve, or both, and address it at the source.
How chiropractic care can help tennis elbow
Tennis elbow looks different for everyone
Our focus is simple: establish whether the problem is in the tendon, the nerve supply from the neck, or the full loading chain through the wrist, elbow and shoulder, and treat it at the source. Because the right treatment depends entirely on what's actually there. You might be experiencing:
- Pain on the outside of the elbow
- Pain when gripping, lifting or twisting
- Weakness in the grip
- A tenderness directly over the outside of the elbow joint
- Pain that radiates down into the forearm
- Difficulty fully extending the arm
- Pain that worsens through the day with use
When should you see a chiropractor for tennis elbow?
You should consider seeing a chiropractor if:
- Pain on the outside of your elbow has been there for more than a few weeks
- Rest helps temporarily but the pain returns when you go back to normal activity
- Gripping, lifting or twisting reliably aggravates it
- A steroid injection provided relief that didn't last
- Painkillers are becoming a regular part of managing it
- You want to know whether the problem is in the tendon, the nerve, or further up the chain
The elbow is where the pain is. Let's find out where it starts.

Tennis elbow is The jar you can't open
The handshake you brace yourself for. The kettle you've started lifting with two hands. The mouse that aggravates it all day at a desk. The bag you've switched to the other shoulder. The sport you've stepped back from because the grip is too painful. The things that used to be automatic that now need thinking about.
What happens at your first tennis elbow appointment?
Your first visit is a proper assessment, designed to answer the questions most people arrive with: what's actually causing this, why isn't it settling, and what can be done about it. You'll get:
- A detailed history and symptom review
- Orthopaedic testing of the elbow, wrist and grip
- A thorough examination of the neck and upper spine
- A postural and movement assessment
- X-rays, if clinically required
- A clear answer on whether the problem is in the tendon, the nerve, or both
- Straight advice on what we can do and what the plan looks like
For many patients, a proper assessment is the first time anyone has looked beyond the elbow to find out what's actually driving the pain.
91% of Willow patients feel better with regular chiropractic care.

Why our approach is different
By the time most people reach us, they've tried a few things. Rest, which helped until they went back to normal activity. A steroid injection that reduced the pain for a while before it returned. Physio exercises aimed at the tendon. A brace. And the elbow is still painful.
There's a reason that sequence doesn't resolve it. Everything tried so far was aimed at the point of pain. None of it established whether the problem is in the tendon, the nerve supply from the neck, or the loading pattern through the whole arm.
A steroid injection reduces inflammation at the attachment point. It doesn't change what's loading the tendon or whether a nerve in the cervical spine is referring pain into the forearm. When the injection wears off, nothing structural has changed. The pain returns because the cause hasn't been addressed. What we're looking for:
- Whether the problem is a genuine tendon issue, a nerve issue from the cervical spine, or both
- Which joints in the neck and upper spine are restricted and referring into the forearm
- How the wrist and shoulder are contributing to the load on the tendon
- What in your work, sport or daily habits is maintaining the problem
Once we know what's actually driving it, we treat it directly and build a plan to stop it coming back.
You don't have to keep managing around a painful elbow.
